Building community through arts programming

CITYSTEP EXECUTIVE MEMBER AND TEACHER

CityStep introduces public school youth to the performing arts as an outlet for creative self-expression and a tool for building self-esteem. We believe the confidence and creativity our CitySteppers have instilled transcends other aspects of their lives.

The empowering nature of art
I crafted lesson plans designed to promote creative self-expression and mutual understanding. I worked to build meaningful and lasting relationships with my students. I witnessed them discover their talents in dance and contribute ideas meaningfully.

Fundraising for the kids

As an executive board member for two consecutive years, I coordinated a multi-tier effort to engage the Penn community. By hosting an annual dance competition with the participation of 14+ campus groups, we fundraised $8,000+ for CityStep initiatives..
